Research profile
Melanocortin signalling
Human phase 3 studies
What it is and why it is studied
PT-141 is another name for bremelanotide, a cyclic peptide. PT-141 research examines melanocortin signalling in relation to sexual desire. The best-defined clinical evidence comes from bremelanotide studies in a specific population, allowing readers to examine both measured outcomes and tolerability.
What studies have found
Two phase 3 RECONNECT trials in premenopausal women with hypoactive sexual desire disorder reported improvements in desire and related distress. Nausea, flushing and headache were more frequent with bremelanotide than placebo.
These findings concern a medicinal preparation and a defined diagnosis. They do not establish enhancement effects in other populations or equivalence of this research vial.

The reference peptide is N-acetylated and has an Asp–Lys side-chain lactam ring and a free C-terminal acid. It is chemically distinct from the amidated Melanotan II reference.
Chemical information describes the named reference structure, not a batch analysis or confirmation of the material supplied. Counterions, water and excipients are excluded unless stated.
Understanding these details
A sequence describes the order of residues in a peptide. A molecular formula describes the atoms in the reference structure. Molar mass is expressed in grams per mole; it is not the amount in a vial. CAS numbers and PubChem identifiers help you find the corresponding chemical records.
Selected literature and reference information checked 11 September 2026. Study findings concern the preparations and models described; they do not certify this product. For laboratory research only.
