Research profile
Mitochondrial signalling and exercise adaptation
Animal intervention; human observations
What it is and why it is studied
MOTS-c is a mitochondrial-encoded peptide studied in metabolic signalling. MOTS-c connects mitochondrial biology with the study of muscle adaptation and metabolic stress. Research asks how signals encoded by mitochondria can influence wider cellular responses and physical capacity.
What studies have found
A 2021 study reported improved physical performance and changes in muscle-related biology after MOTS-c administration in mice. The same paper found that exercise increased naturally occurring MOTS-c in human muscle and circulation.
The human findings concern the body's own response to exercise. They are not an administration trial demonstrating performance benefits or safety in people.

Understanding these details
A sequence describes the order of residues in a peptide. A molecular formula describes the atoms in the reference structure. Molar mass is expressed in grams per mole; it is not the amount in a vial. CAS numbers and PubChem identifiers help you find the corresponding chemical records.
Selected literature and reference information checked 11 September 2026. Study findings concern the preparations and models described; they do not certify this product. For laboratory research only.
